[LORE] - 1930's Kingstreet (Lore Contest | Short-Story)
NOTICE: This topic remains to be in speculation - as this is not hereby official. To not contest with other users, this topic is merely done for fun!
Alrighty, Round 2 with the lore contest, officially stated by InfiniteBread! So the topic is around Kingstreet - an interesting choice, now to see if we can make sense with it - while doing this for the sake of fun.
So of course, I will be making a lore of the 1930's Kingstreet map in my own version with some alterations that can exist in other forms such as in movies and so. And if it was to be official, at least it would make much more sense if anyone find any confusion in this - Well, lets get to it.
(MAIN-STORY) - 1930's Kingstreet: The Cursed City
The Founding of Kingstreet - (Early-Modern)
The landmark of Kingstreet, to which some survivors would recall it the gloomiest place on earth, is not as far fetched as some would like to believe. Regardless of it's shabby, aging sight; much of the despise and disgust were not just for what it is now, but for it's nefariously troubling past that many wouldn't care less.
Construction has begun in the Spring of 1926, built near the mountain sides opposite to where Victoria Harbor would be located - for which a tunnel would be into the works a year later to connect with the harbor and their new establishment. The purpose was for the Harbor employee's themselves, which the majority of the Harbor's work-force is far from their families and loved ones, and a convenient location to house a few dozen people with simplistic designs on a few households, while larger or taller structures to be purposed as a business center or storage to keep the basic needs of the occupants met in the minor city. Occasionally, the occupants are permitted to use the trolly underneath the city to get to other locations such as the Industrial Complex that is short to a few miles away.
While it's role is to yet be consulted for business, the construction had been officially completed in Early October of 1929, yet finishing at the month in the beginning of the Stock Market Crash - which would soon be known world-wide, as The Great Depression.
the Stock Market Crash - (Early-Modern to Mid-Modern)
A month has passed since October 24, 1929 (aka, the Great Crash), and the effects of the crash were nothing but clear as glass - many workers at both the Industrial Complex and Victoria Harbor were laid off, most released without heeding direct attention to their former employee's and some of their higher staff. The owner of Victoria Harbor barely kept it's business from going to bankruptcy, however the Industrial Complex would shut down and bar access to anyone and confined to the Government's possession - so too would Kingstreet fall victim after failing to sustain any steady flow of money to sustain itself.
Authorities eventually barred key access points of Kingstreet - ideally, the rail network from the city to the Industrial Complex, while the tunnel from the city to Victoria Harbor. At this time, the lack of maintenance and care from the government had little effect on the degradation to the structures themselves in a year's time - however, it did not stop from certain prying eyes to set up shop...
The End of the Prohibition Era - (Mid-Modern to Post-Modern)
At this age, alcoholic beverage trades were deemed prohibited - which had sparked many criminal organizations to spring like rats in many corners of the country and gained substantial wealth from it. Little supervision was laid on Kingstreet by the Authorities, which wasn't surprising to spark opportunity to a local gang to set up a secret brewery in one of the abandoned structures - while using a small warehouse (located across the bridge) as their stockpile for goods such as their own brewery, drugs and weapon caches.
It never stopped other rival gang members to strategize raids to benefit from their earnings. Kingstreet is just one of many towns and cities to fall under criminal strife of dominance, power, wealth and valued products. While criminal activity is one of the many issues, other highlighted issues had made the Government to propose on reassessing the appeal that had started the core problems.
While criminal activity had began dwindling in the sudden change, many organizations struggled to sustain themselves of profit, or to avoid the attention of Authorities - for which cleansed Kingstreet of the verminous gang members to be arrested upon discovering their hide out. From then on, despite mandatory surveillance and patrol within the government's property, no one has set foot within the abandoned and cleared-out city of Kingstreet or had any future plans for it's use as decades went by, as The Great Depression had officially ended and the economy boomed for many industries and communities to spring from the ground.
Only for the tables to turn when word broke out and the world went into panic as the Apocalypse became the only thing in mind to many...
A Dying Refuge - (Post-Modern to Mid-Apocalypse)
On the 14th of August, 2012 - in nearly 79 Years of total isolation, Kingstreet were to finally be recognized by the government as a refuge staging point as death and destruction began to grip the nation. Using Victoria Harbor as a means of entry, many civilian survivors were taken within the city for refuge. While the Harbor was to be used for Military Personnel only, Kingstreet was - strategically - the most fortified camp in the known world at the time. With being on excavated land, very high from the sea level with the inclined terrain made most invasions by the SANI Hordes futile, while some structures have seen better days, still hold in excellent condition and provide the most basic hospitality and reliable storage for supplies and necessities.
It had withstood for a solid decade, a feat no other settlement could ever achieve - which turned into their major downfall...
Like others, they were the first settlements to succumb to the SANI-Virus' new breed of monsters. While their position on the surface has remained secured, their demise had begun within the unused railway system - which ironically housed many of the settled civilians in Kingstreet, for which a horde of zombies had traversed through the tunnel that lead to the Industrial Complex. Just like how Pandora's Box unveiled across the nation, the bloodlusted hordes of death attack the shocked civilians while many more poured out of the underground station. Little reaction had ever been made - it had been so sudden, their attacks much more vicious than what they knew of previously.
While those with any form of weapon on them fought, they would shortly fall to the endless hordes and risen corpses of those they once protected; torn apart by Leapers, Tickers, Diggers, Elementals and Brutes. As the horde proceed to go through a tunnel leading to Victoria Harbor, some stayed to hunt every last known living being that has hidden from them...
What Remains - (Mid-Apocalypse to Present Day)
Survivors new and old have - in their life-time - been to Kingstreet at some point. For them, they knew the city never stood a chance - the defense positions more keen for people hostile to the community than to ward off the SANI threat, let alone stayed to tactics that was only ever successful for the early years of the SANI-Virus. Their cockiness and lowered guard had been their downfall, yet hardly much action had ever taken place - they never expected for their point of entry to be from underneath of all places.
Regardless on what others think, you are most fortunate that a Supply Truck originally heading to Victoria Harbor remains intact with a good engine and enough fuel at the warehouse - except the tires need to be replaced, yet there seems to be a bunch of them lying around at some of the most oddest of places across the bridge. Only problem is.. they occupy the very remains of what used to be a prosperous community, and the start of the engine will sure as hell call in for a lot of attention.
It's time to get your hands dirty again, after discussing the plan with your party - both of which agreeing to the said plan - the time is now while they have yet to notice our presence. Just like the old times in the 30's - I guess...
Welcome, To 1930's Kingstreet!
(TL:DR) - 1930's Kingstreet: Quick Notes About The Apocalypse
Short Version
To say in a brief prespective, Kingstreet was founded and built for the purpose of industrial needs - specifically for Victoria Harbor & the Industrial Complex. Construction had taken longer than expected for the owner's liking, yet finished at a bad timing when the Stock Market in the country crashed - for which followed suit for other countries world-wide.
While the Industrial Complex had fallen to bankruptcy, this spooked the owner of Victoria Harbor to relieve many of the work-force, which unfavorably ruins Kingstreet's potential of being a joint-connection between the Complex and the Harbor, which would have made a real economic game changer.
While the owner has given up his possession of the land and returning it to the Government, they had little interest with the land itself. While they are pressing on more important matters, it has fallen victim to a few crime syndicates that had fought control for the land during the Prohibition Era - however, it did not last long as Law Enforcement has discovered the illegal operations and withheld surveillance over the area for decades, yet remaining with little use to the Government - until the change of events by the SANI-Virus.
While Kingstreet had made a major success on being one of the well fortified established settlements in this new world, their arrogance to adapt and overestimate have proven to be their downfall when a random horde had unexpectingly ambushed a majority of the population under the city. Lacking any defense for this scenario, little time was given to the Guards to properly group to strike the threat and evacuate the remaining civilians. In the end, the settlement had fallen within hours, and would eventually overwhelm Victoria Harbor.
Defense Description
For the modern survivor, the defense for the Settlement was really poor and ineffective. Guessing to have had harsh co-operation with neighboring communities, this sort of defense was more for other people than for the Dead. Taking advantage with the terrain, there were some understandings, yet in the end, their lack of scouting and patrol would eventually lead to the horrendous scenario.
The only plus side, is they know when to have certain positions for supply boxes and ammunition stations.
The Current Status with 1930's Kingstreet
To this day, it still surprises the common survivor for how long this city stood - and to be in such fine condition. While it's layout is in it's late 20's, it provides a hazardous problem - the use of glass in particular is very common. Which made some guess is how the community fell as they dealt with a Charged Brute.
Diggers have also proven to be a real issue - given the fact that there are hardly any railings, they seem to purposely trip their prey into the shallow shoreline under the bridge, which evidently shows many doomed corpses with in the water.
In total, Explosive Weapons are vastly recommended for the density of the location, reliable field of view and exposure for long ranged rifles and reliable positions to easily group up and fight on hordes and use personal vehicles and mounts - perhaps survive much more longer than the pathetic occupants that once lived here
Final Notes
Key Notes
This story is to be as real as it can get which allows most of the events, changes and additions to the actual R2D:A Game. Viewing the Main Story is your choice - if you would like to cut to the chase, a TL:DR is just right here, but I appreciate you reading this anyhow!
In other words, this story is in no intention to steal the title (again) from other people - it is for fun purposes, and I even like contesting with other people, mind you. But what can I say - I like to be a part of something. x3
Apologies if you may see any grammar mistakes - then again, if this was Official, it would be fixed by a professional. xD. Anyways, appreciate your time in reading this!
