Summary

The Rambo Knife is a short-range survival knife capable of slicing zombies, making them trip and fall over. This allows for some easy pickings.

Background Story

Everyone has a knife in their house.

Knives are used for so many things — opening your packages, cutting meat, accidentally wounding yourself and more! They're just so versatile. So, when the apocalypse came along, many reached for their simple knives. Sure, perhaps they aren't as great as an Axe for dealing damage, but knives are light, easy to use, fun to swing around and useful for incapacitating those brain-dead infected for a bit.

R-Brain Hardwork decided to do some research into the logistics of creating a knife with an optimal balance between force and being lightweight and found that it was quite difficult to find this perfect balance. With small knives, there was too little room for modifications. They eventually settled on just making it as high-quality as possible and telling their buyers to go a sort of "Rambo" while using it. This just meant swinging it as hard as they could.

Tips

  • Throwing is a unique ability to the Rambo Knife, the Christmas Spear, Ice Sledge and the Bloxy.
    • If it lands, it deals 50% more damage. It deals 82.5 damage as opposed to 55.
    • After you throw it, it will take 3 seconds to come back.
      • You are entirely defenseless, so switch to your other weapon.
      • Others will still see the knife, but it'll be missing for you.
    • This throw is affected by gravity, much akin to a Brute's club.
    • If you hug a wall, your throw will go right through.
  • Unlike R2D 2014, this cannot save you from a Leaper or a Stalker.
    • However, you can cut an Edgar's tongue to protect yourself, so long you aren't pinned.
  • Fighting a Ticker isn't recommended. You'll lose a lot of your HP.
  • Once you melee a mob, hold down your mouse.
    • While they're down, you can throw a knife into their back.
      • This saves time and it's just easier to land the throw.
    • In Melee Smash, this can lead to a clean execution.
  • Try to learn to switch weapons on the go. It will be helpful.
    • If a mob gets too close, this is your security.
  • You can throw this to open doors that require a humanoid touch.
    • For example, Zero Kelvin Station's keypad doors. By throwing it at the keypad, the door will open for you.
      • This trick can also be used in Quests to activate buttons.
  • Like other melee weapons, Boosters can be extremely useful.
  • Combined with an accurate weapon, this might make a lethal combo towards a Normal Zombie. It allows time to deliver a headshot before they can react.
  • Throwing this won't counter a Brute's club.
  • In Party Deathmatch & Melee Smash, this can be very effective, as you can use it at long range.
    • The no additional health in these game modes makes it better here than Free For All or Team Deathmatch.
    • This can be useful, as it has high damage from range. While not entirely killing survivors, it leaves them severely weakened.
  • The animations now synergise into a 3-hit combo.
    • A fourth one can be seen if you jump and click in mid-air.
  • Despite being almost the exact same as the Karambit, it will swing faster and is recommended to be used on most non-vertical maps such as Panama Beach.
  • Throwing the Rambo at Aces makes them trip and fling around, sometimes falling through the map. This can be used against Guardian aces, easily killing them.

Pros

  • Trip
  • Knockback
  • Throw

  • In Debug, this used to cost 32,000$ and dealt 35 damage to mobs.
  • There is an uncommon glitch where you can throw two knives at once.
    • However, this glitch became extremely difficult to perform as a side effect of some Karambit patches.
  • When you equip the Rambo Knife, an animation will briefly play.
    • This animation is inspired by, and takes after, CSGO's Bayonet knife equip animation.

  • This is the first throwable melee, with the second being the Christmas Spear.
