"Once a beautiful beach, now a zombie infested madness!"
―Aurified

Summary

Panama Beach is an island-based map first introduced in the R2DA Pre-Demo as Tropical Trouble. Unlike some maps, the water doesn't kill you instantly here. You can still drown in it though, so that's a technicality.

Background Story

Panama Beach was one of the most beautiful islands in the world, so vacationing here was quite common. Before, you know, the SANI Virus struck. Well, technically, it is still one of the most beautiful islands. There's just no one else around to say it is. You can say it yourself, but there are a lot of zombies here to stop you from doing so.

Waves crashed upon the islands, those waves picking up survivors and crashing them on top of one of the small islands, alerting the hoard. They panicked and looked around to see a Boat on fire, rushing over and extinguishing the fire so they could hurriedly push the boat into the water. Successfully doing so, they sailed away to another location.

Design

This map features two islands, one small island that serves as the survivor spawn and one big island, which covers the majority of the map. Both are surrounded by water with numerous palm trees dotted on the islands itself.

There is also a secret cave located within the map that can serve as a camping spot, although you can be easily be overrun within it. Interestingly enough, there are no borders, meaning you can fall off the map if you are careless enough or are just looking for an easy way out.

Tips

  • Zombie spawns are located fairly close to Ammo Stations, so take caution when going for a refill.
  • Unsurprisingly, water can extinguish you if you are on fire. This also makes killing an Elemental slightly easier.
  • Bullets can't penetrate water, so if needed as a zombie, you can hide within the water for some cover.
    • Explosive damage will still be able to kill you though. Look out for M202 shells or RPG rockets.
  • Staying in the cave may seem like a good idea, but it's not a good spot late in a round.
    • Unless you seriously know what you're doing, it's probably best to avoid this area entirely.
    • If you want to enter the secret cave, you will have to swim to the cave's entrance quickly, as you will take damage from running out of air.
  • Due to the relatively even surface, camping isn't recommended.
    • Minus the protection of trees, Brutes can pick you off from miles away. Diggers and Leapers are also deadly here due to the lack of high ground.
    • Perfect weapons for this map include long-range automatics, such as the Famas, and sniper rifles, such as the Dragunov.
    • The M2 Tripod is also recommended as zombies are unlikely to ambush you if you place your turret carefully.
    • The Jetski can be used as a quick getaway tool.

Trivia

  • This was the first map to be added to R2DA.
    • As a given, it is also the first map in R2DA to use triangle mapping for the main terrain.
  • First map to be named after a real life place.
  • Panama Beach is likely named after the town of Panama City Beach in Florida, not the country of Panama itself.
  • During Pre-Demo, Panama Beach was referred to as Tropical Trouble.
    • There used to be unique music for Tropical Trouble, which can be found here.
  • Before you were allowed to keep your avatar as a zombie, the zombies were dressed in beach attire.
  • This map used to not have any Ammo Stations while the game was in its Pre-Demo stage. This is why the MP5 had infinite ammo at first.
  • Currently, this is the map with the least amount of Supply Boxes, with a total of one.
  • When loading on a Gamemode other than Campaign, the Boat can be seen for a split second before disappearing completely.
  • There are 2 treasure chests hidden within the map that are more or less for visual appeal.
