- "This so called "right arm of the free world" is not just good at scaring zombies and communists alike. It also scares left handed users."
- ―Tsukuyomi-141
Summary
The FN FAL (Fusil Automatique Léger) is a mid-rank Battle Rifle with great base stats. It's notorious for its powerful bullet caliber and usage during the struggle against communism. Coming with a variety of attachments to mix up your playstyle, FAL can adapt to any situation it is put in. The FAL truly earned its title as "The Right Arm of the Free World".
Background Story
Pilot's Log; October 8th, 2019.
I'm starting to get bored of being a delivery boy. I'm a feared flying ace, not the US Postal Service. We give this collector guy some supplies, we got his Garand. The boss always did these trades on his own time, but because his hands are tied he picks me to do all the damn chores. It's both a blessing and a curse to have flying skills. Sometimes I wish I was still on my own. Next time I see him I'm gonna give him a piece of my mind.
The worst part about all this? I LIKE hearing what the collector guy has to say. Stories about his ancestors, how he got certain weapons, how he's trekking on. I could be out strafing zombies, making a name of myself but instead I'm listening to an old man's memoirs.
I still see this as a disadvantage. If my time is up I wanna go out guns blazing, not delivering paper towels and food for this guy.
There is one good thing about this though. These frequent meetings allow us to acquire new things for us to produce. I don't know what the boss has in mind but I hope this collector guy just comes to his senses and gives it all up to us to produce. Beggars can't be choosers though. He did part with another weapon today. Belgian or French I think. I don't know to be honest, I never heard much about this gun before. I just need my plane and the Luger to do the work for me.
I've only seen videos of the FAL in action before the 3rd infection, which feels like a fever dream to me. Now I understand the rumors I heard about this gun, it feels like I'm carrying a suitcase full of bricks. I can only hope that the boss can do his magic on this gun, put it in the right hands.
I probably won't ever use this, but who knows? Maybe I'll give it a shot or two one day.

P.S. I better get a raise for this.
Tips
- This weapon has multiple attachments. Utilise them depending on the map or the gamemode, as each of them drastically alters the FAL's performance.
- The ACOG Sight does not provide any benefits aside from a precision sight picture, so only buy the scope if you plan on ADS and picking off enemies from afar.
- The Conversion Kit is helpful for crowd control and for closer range combat.
- The Silencer provides accuracy at the cost of shorter range and is recommended for small maps like Subway or Dead Plaza II.
- The Faster Reload can save you from a tight situation where you need to get back into the fight as quickly as possible, due to the FAL's sluggish reload.
- The Extended Mag is handy for boss fights and crowd control where accuracy does not matter.
- This gun has recoil if you aim down sights and spray.
- To counter this, fire your shots in small bursts, semi fire, or force your camera down to attempt to control the recoil.
- Avoid spraying for too long, especially if you have the Conversion Kit equipped as you will lose accuracy and exhaust your ammunition very quickly.
- You can bring armors that grant extra magazines, like Bulldozer I to remedy this problem.

Trivia
- The FAL was leaked by a gamepass.
- FAL stands for "Fusil Automatique Léger" in French, and is literally translated to "Light Automatic Rifle" in English.
- There are bullets inside of the magazine that dynamically disappear and reappear when putting a new mag in.
- This can be seen through the open chamber while reloading.
- The reload animation takes inspiration from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare rendition of the FAL.
- The first weapon to have an attachment that can change what mode the gun can shoot on.
- The FAL was originally planned to be released in the form of a suggestion thread as early as December 2020 because of backstory consistencies.
- This, however, was changed due to jopede wanting to add it as soon as development for 1.4.7 started, hence its early arrival in R2DA and changed backstory.
- The FAL is a Belgian battle rifle manufactured by FN Herstal. It is one of the most widely used rifles in history, having been used by more than 90 countries. Because of its prevalence and widespread usage among the militaries of many NATO and first world countries during the Cold War (with the notable exception of the United States, who used the M14 rifle instead), it received the title "The Right Arm of the Free World".
- There are multiple variants of the FAL in real life. The model in-game was made off of the FAL 50.00 with wooden furniture, but the FAL seen in the game acts like an L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle, a British variant of the rifle because of its default semi-auto firing mode that can't be changed without a Conversion Kit attachment.
- Of note, there is an L1A1 variant designated the L2A1, which is an automatic light-machine gun conversion of the original rifle.

- The FAL in real life has 700 RPM, whereas the in-game version only has 500 RPM.
