The flame thrower works well on its own, but it feels... lacking, when compared to the destructive power of other weapons. While it does clear hordes well and can do good amounts of damage over time, it's bad in pretty much any other scenario: It's dps and range is too low for quickly taking out leapers before they pounce (on you or away from you), and diggers can just shrug off the fire and stunlock you to their heart's desire. Often times the range is not long enough to target enemies from a safe distance, making it too much of a high risk / high reward weapon for it's purpose as a trash clearer.
This attachment changes it from a mobile horde killer into a heavy and slow, but powerful weapon for taking out anything. Its damage and range allow to devestate anything that isnt an Elemental or Ticker. It's fuel burns stronger but faster however, making sustained fire a liability if you don't watch your significantly decreased ammo pool and slower reload.
(also makes it heavier because its internal mechanisms must be changed and hardened to withstand the more unstable gases and liquids)
