"It's now or never, take the shot!"
―Captain MacMillan

Summary

The Barrett 50 Cal., known formally as the Barrett M82, is by far one of the most devastating weapons in the game for anyone with good aim. It's able to kill the Elemental, the Swarmer and the Digger in one shot and kill the Ticker with two body-shots.

Make sure to watch your ammo count. Although it's great at taking down zombies one by one, its magazine size is still fairly small.

Above all, this weapon is best used to supply support. This should be used to take down more dangerous targets before they're able to close the gap on other survivors.

Background Story

By far the most lethal hitting weapon that was contrived by the venerated manufacturer, R-Brain Hardwork , is the Barrett M82. Its .50 calibre bullets were created to blast through armor and cover; this makes it an impeccable sharpshooting weapon for penetrating through zombie flesh like a thousand-degree knife through butter.

As customary with most of R-Brain Hardwork products, however, the quality of their renditions don't match with pre-apocalypse variants that garnered its renowned infamy; forcing users to manually prime the weapon, and deal with its diminished 6-round magazine that was formerly 10-rounds.

These adjustments, however, could be seen as leniency from the company (same goes for the Spas-12) as these changes have made the Barrett a more lightweight sniper; even more so than its past iteration which was heavier than the M249.

Tips

  • This weapon is devastating on high ground, and getting the scope elevates its potential further.
  • Avoid engaging mobs at close quarters with the Barrett 50 Cal., especially against Brutes without support, due to its notoriously low firerate and slow reload.
  • The penetration ability is a useful perk. Use it whenever you can.
    • The Bell will help the zombies to gather in one straight line.
    • The pierce can and will explode the tanks on a Ticker's back regardless of where you're firing from.
    • Damage doesn't deteriorate for every zombie you pierce.
    • Keep in mind that you can only penetrate through 2 targets, capable of hitting 3 targets in total.
  • As with other long-range rifles, it's not recommended to use this weapon constantly in first person.
    • Your situational awareness is greatly lowered and can get you killed.
      • However, hipfiring this weapon causes the accuracy to decrease. To maximise accuracy, scoping in is recommended if you want to pick off enemies from afar.
  • It's recommended to use this weapon on more open maps such as Farmhouse and Last Harvest.
  • If needed, equip some armor that supplies extra mags such as the Bulldozer I.
  • This gun, along with the CK Swat, could be considered one of the top-tier guns in Free For All.
    • However, due to the severe damage nerf and the short equip delay in Free For All (~150 damage), Party Deathmatch (~90 damage) and Team Deathmatch (~160 damage), many people consider this less powerful, though its usefulness is undeterred thanks to its high accuracy and range.
    • People who use the Barrett 50 Cal. and the CK Swat or with the Spas-12 in Free For All are commonly known as "Battletards", a type of players that can be seen dominating Battlestation servers with the notorious combo, the Barrett 50 Cal. (or Spas-12) and CK Swat, before update v1.4.6. got published.
  • You do not need to headshot at Normal Zombies as you can easily kill them with a shot to the body, but be careful if they have upgraded health.
  • The Barrett 50 Cal. can be very useful on the Void map, due to its long-range, penetrating capabilities and that zombies spawn often far away and grouped together on the map.
  • Due to the Barrett 50 Cal.'s high total damage, only being beaten by the M249 and P90, it is a suitable weapon in Bosses, and is highly recommended for bosses with no time-limit such as Bull King.
    • Furthermore, total damage can be increased by wearing armors that grant extra magazines or by using different ammunition types (like Hard or Explosive).
    • The only downside is the very slow rate of fire and reload time, but can be remedied with the 25% Faster Reload attachment.
  • With Explosive Ammo and a Flakvest, you can rocket jump with this.
    • This technique takes out a fair bit of HP, so if you are planning to do this have something to heal yourself up with.
    • You will also take a good amount of fall damage. Use the Parasol or Duck Mount for this.
    • Do NOT use Cakepack or you will just explode yourself upon trying.
    • Combine this with the Boo Blast gravity effect, and you can get quite high.
      • However, going to restricted places can be considered glitching and so can get you banned.
