R2D players, the day has come.
A day we were doing our best to cheat, or at least prepare for.
But we are all still shocked at the news.
PlaceRebuilder has officially discontinued the game.
Now, some of you might be feeling scared, others might be even shaking in their seats. Some might be angry, upset, disappointed, or maybe, just maybe, some of you may be even celebrating about this situation.
Who knows for sure how you are reacting to this. But, one thing we can all come to realize about this.
History is repeating itself.
From what I could gather from the past evidence, the old R2D has died the same way that is happening right now.
Hackers forcing themselves in to mess with the game's mechanics, getting rid of anyone who plays the game or who stand in their way.
For the past 8 years, we have done our best to try to rid of this problem.
Placing barriers up to stop the exploiters from doing whatever they want to do.
But eventually, the hackers will find a way around, or through those barriers.
We kept placing walls or obstacles in their path to stop, but they kept going through them, until eventually they are ten steps ahead of us, and plague the game.
No one would really be able to stop them, and eventually, the game will cease to exist.
This is what is happening right now.
The exploiters are winning in this time of day or night, whichever timezone you are at right now, and it seems we can't do anything to stop it.
PlaceRebuilder has come to realize this, and instead of trying to fight them, he has officially threw in the towel, explaining that it was fun while it lasted.
PR, if you are reading this, I honestly don't blame you. Having to develop for nearly 8 years, maybe more is exhausting, especially if you have to also do real life things, and adding balance changes, making barriers for the hackers, all of that. I can see why you are giving up now; and that's okay. Eventually, everything has a point where they face death itself. There is no reason for you to think that you have failed everyone in this community, if you do think that anyway. Everyone makes mistakes, we screw up as human beings. But to think that you have failed everyone is not something you want to have stuck on your head for the rest of your days.
For the others who are reading this, you might not even know who I am or why this is happening.
But greetings, my name is Electro. Seems a bit too late to greet each other at the end times.
Some of you might not even know what is going on. Either you are too young to fully understand, or you are denying the inevitable.
So, the few questions that remain.
What can we do about this?
Where do we go now?
What is going to happen next?
For some of you, you may have already accepted the fact that R2D is dying, or already dead by the time this article is published, and are starting to move on.
But for the majority of us, we are resisting.
We believe that there is a way out of this. That there is a way we can cheat death once more.
Even the veterans, like GoSinister, or Jopede, might be refusing the believe that the walls are closing in. Maybe you've accepted it, maybe you haven't.
Now, I'm not trying to scare you, or even trying to convince you that it's dead. It is up to you to decide whether to move on, or to stay with the game on it's last breaths.
But what can we learn from this? What can we, as a community, come to terms with?
For me, history repeats itself.
I believe that if the game really is dying, we can't really do anything about it if the creator has given in.
The game was a bit unbalanced in terms of gameplay, but even that couldn't stop me from having fun.
This community is...messily organized, I like to call it.
It's messy, yes, the place can be toxic, we have our own opinions on this and that.
But the organized part about it is the fact we are all coming back together for one specific reason. Being serious enough to take this all in.
And it's strange how this community still stands today.
And now, the instrument of death is hitting it's final notes.
Again. not trying to scare you out of your socks, but I want to tell you there is a lesson to learn here. Several lessons we can learn from these 8 years.
Where do we go now?
It's up to you really, I won't stop you if you say that the game is dead or not.
I will stay with the game on it's final days or even hours.
We had fun together, laughed, raged, had fun, and got frustrated.
So, thanks.
Thank you PR for making a game that made me experience those things.
I hope you can have a good life, but we can't have a perfect one, none of us can.
Thank you.
