I’m sure most people can agree that it’s pretty odd that not all of the original maps have been re-released even half a decade after the game launched. Understandably PR wants to remake these maps to be really well done and more clean then they’re R2D counterparts, but this process is actually really slow as naturally there is tons of other stuff we need to work on in the game, but long time players can usually agree that playing the same maps over and over gets boring.
What do I suggest? Utilize greenlight more often.
Greenlight is a feature that takes in-development maps and allows players to playtest and try them out. Currently limited to only 4 maps I think we should expand on this feature by:
- Porting classic R2D maps over to R2DA so new players can try them. Map polish shouldn’t matter as greenlit maps should be used for testing or trying out in development projects/seeing community feedback
- New developers can submit their maps and add them to a testing environment to determine if they’re stable, or designed well enough to be added into the game, regard of polish.
This has 3 main benefits:
- New maps for players to try out - Old Players can experience the classic maps they played in old R2D - Developers can see how players interact and play on their maps, allowing them to adjust or fix things with it before it might be added to the game.
Sorry for the wall of text, thoughts and criticism welcome and thanks for reading!
